I have been spending a lot of time rewriting a Discussion paper on the challenges facing Professional services - in particular Legal firms. I live in the City of Edinburgh and as many know the City is full of large legal practises supporting the Financial and Business communities.
In the late 90's and early part of the new Millennium I worked with several large Law Firms ostensibly on organisational redesign, strategy and customer focus with remarkable impact to their performance.
Legal Firms are interesting businesses because often the lawyers don't see themselves as a business but as a collection of individual specialists each with their own private clients and specialities.
My task was to help them unite and to create a culture of interdependence.
Professional Service Providers
Interestingly, much of what is written in this Discussion Paper is also applicable to other professional services providers such as Accoutants, Private Medical Professionals, Vets, Surveyors, Civil Engineers etc.
