Major Conservation & Wildlife Charity Creates a Culture of Transformational Leadership & Change

This organisation is well over a 100 years old and has close on a million members and subscribers within the UK. Their energies are directed by an extremely vibrant management team who long ago recognised that significant change only arises when you redesign and reshape the culture of the business.

The business is powered by 1500 full-time staff and over 16,000 volunteers organised throughout the country and the wider world, and is committed to the preservation of Birds, Wildlife and the environment that which support the conservation agenda.

Leadership Development on the Conservation Agenda

The chosen method was through a Leadership Development process which was the forerunner of a series of other exercises, mostly delivered through myself and the Head of Training of the Charity.

Designing Learning Strategies

I worked closely with the Training manager to design the learning outcomes and the material by which we could introduce change. We ensured that all case materials and leadership exercises would be directly geared to the environment in which the managers and staff operated.

Leadership Benefits Accrues to Leading Charity

  • Over 350 managers of this business attended a two day Leadership session, with further modules designed to improve performance between the functional silos and down through the business
  • All managers have completed several 360 degree assessments on their management style, and have developed action plans for personal development and change
  • All managers and additional staff players have attended a series of performance management and cross functional working sessions geared to significantly shift performance to new levels
  • Approximately 50 of the total staff have completed Myers Briggs profiles and use this tool when working in their natural and project teams
  • Senior management have committed to this process to drive their new strategic business planning process, which is currently in its fourth iteration
  • Personal development and change has spread through both the fulltime and part-time ranks of this organisation to the 16,000 strong Volunteer Network
  • Project Management and delivery of new projects is a direct reflection of the commitment of the Leadership team of this Charity to significantly educate the population to be cognisant and committed to preserving our environment, and Bird and wildlife heritage
