Superior Internal Consulting: Managing the Politics of Change

The Royal Scots Club - Edinburgh (Dates tba)

Change is the Culture……

"As the demands of the marketplace require organisations to change, there is an increasing pressure on managers to master and drive the process of change rather than rely on external consultants."

This Workshop achieves this objective by developing participants’ skills to successfully drive and implement change. Organisations can then develop their own army of internal change agents to drive ‘change’ in whatever format, and, therefore, require significantly less external support.

During this highly interactive Workshop, Philip will take participants through ‘best practice’ in internal consulting, case studies, self-assessment questionnaires and how change can be measured and mastered.

Specific Objectives and activities

  • Understand the key actors in the change process.
  • Learn to control the actors in the change process – the Sponsor, the Catalyst, the Targets and the Advocates
  • Understand the politics of change
  • Learn to use leverage to achieve your objectives
  • Change is a behavioural and a political process – read the politics.
  • Bring organisational politics and resistance out into the open
  • Explore a six stage methodology for Rapid Improvement
  • Examine why change programmes fail
  • Assessing personal Consulting styles that improve implementation, and presenting proposals for approval
  • Identify the core skills and characteristics of an internal consultant

The Power to Influence

The Royal Scots Club - Edinburgh (Dates tba)

Influence and achieve

“Personal success is ultimately created when you develop influencing strategies to present your ideas and proposals to best effect, and influence your audience on both the conscious and unconscious levels”

This Workshop focuses upon the core strategies that you can use to influence in ‘one on one’ situations and in small groups. Working through and focusing upon key objections even before you sit down with those you need to persuade, is fundamental to success. These skills are equally applicable in the context of selling, customer service, negotiating, training and selling the notion of the need to change. The rewards that go with management often focus upon the ability to drive, sell and persuade others of the need to improve. During this highly interactive Workshop, Philip will take participants through some of the most effective approaches applied in the art of persuasion.

Specific Objectives and activities

  • What makes an effective persuader?
  • Identifying the traits of an effective communicator
  • Preparing your case to influence well in advance.
  • Learn how to use and apply ‘body language’ to reinforce your spoken message.
  • Counter personal objections to your proposals before they arise.
  • Reading the audience, identifying specific personality types, and handling the objections of your audience to your message.
  • Self-assess six interpersonal influencing strategies
  • Assess personal presenting styles
  • How to quickly establish rapport with a wide variety of people.
  • How to communicate hypnotically – at the subconscious level.
  • Learn to create and manage a strong and positive personal image.
  • Using simple personality ‘profiling’ to aid the process of influencing with integrity
